Neck pain is a common
condition bringing patients into
our McHenry chiropractic clinic! Spengel Chiropractic sees
that chronic neck pain is a widespread issue
today. Whether the neck pain is non-specific or chronic, Spengel Chiropractic
is here to help coordinate some relief
from the neck pain with a McHenry chiropractic treatment
plan incorporating spinal manipulation and exercise.
EXERCISE OR MANUAL THERAPY…OR BOTH?
Neck pain treatment options are plentiful.
One common method is manual therapy. (Spengel Chiropractic
uses gentle Cox® Technic spinal manipulation.) Another tactic
is exercise. A third is combining the two. A recent
study compared manual therapy, exercise or placebo. Manual therapy by itself
improved perceived neck pain sooner than exercise.
Therapeutic exercise reduced disability earlier
than manual therapy. (1) A further research
project assessed manual therapy plus exercise to exercise
alone over a month. Manual therapy plus
exercise increased short- and medium-term neck pain better than exercise by itself. (2) Spengel Chiropractic has found
that patient participation boosts clinical outcomes,
too. Merging the most effective therapies
for neck pain relief is the better option.
COX® TECHNIC AND EXERCISE FOR NECK PAIN RELIEF
Spengel Chiropractic goes with the research.
Research demonstrated that a safe, gentle type
of manual manipulation, Cox® Technic, dropped intradiscal pressures in the cervical spine. (3) In
the clinical comparison study of Cox® flexion distraction only to
exercise alone for neck pain to the combination of both
that using both was valuable.
(4) Cox® Technic flexion distraction for neck pain relief relieved
pain in a mean of 13.2 visits in a report on cervical spine
radiculopathy patients. (5) Spengel Chiropractic finds that
McHenry neck pain patients are anxious to help
themselves by doing suggested neck exercises in addition to making their chiropractic treatment visits.
