McHenry Anti-inflammatory, Anti-Tumor (and more) Healing with Frankincense and Myrrh
Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia and the Commiphora, respectively – make amazing healing partners! Both have been tapped throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, especially Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties tackle issues with a variety of health conditions, many that OrthoIllinois Chiropractic sees in our McHenry chiropractic patients who may want to know more!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine values frankincense and myrrh for their extensively positive health effects. Used together, their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects and notably for anti-tumor effects prevented growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh are elements of an anti-tumor drug for various cancers with the newest research presenting its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By controlling pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and targeting the blood vessels that nourish tumors in HCC. Tumor volume was decreased, and pathological structure was reduced with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The frankincense/myrrh combo proves itself to be a winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
OrthoIllinois Chiropractic appreciates combinations of treatments to help our McHenry chiropractic patients seeking healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a serious problem of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease, by controlling pathways involved in the glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-fibrosis, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is explained as being able to activate blood and disperse blood stasis. It was tested and found to ease neuropathic pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to preventing TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). OrthoIllinois Chiropractic knows all this detail may not be your “thing” of wanting to know, but we want to give you the whole picture if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
