McHenry Chiropractic Nutrition Tip: Enjoy Those Tomato, Bean and Pepper Gifts from Gardeners!
It’s summer harvest time in the US. The garden abundance is aplenty! Every family circle seems to have at least one enthusiastic gardener with more tomatoes and green beans and peppers than he or she knows what to do with. Fortunately for us, generosity abounds in gardeners. OrthoIllinois Chiropractic urges McHenry chiropractic patients to gratefully accept those green beans, peppers and tomatoes and feast on them for a remarkable anti-oxidant and nutritional boost to fight inflammation, heart disease, cancer, and more! OrthoIllinois Chiropractic welcomes all of these benefits!
ANTI-OXIDANT, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANTI-DISEASE
OrthoIllinois Chiropractic knows this is an amazing list of benefits. It is hard to separate these actions from each other! They are all beneficial. Tomatoes are so full of nutrients, providing vitamin C, potassium and lycopene, an anti-oxidant that benefits cancer and heart disease prevention and anti-inflammatory activity. (1,2) To enhance absorption of lycopene, enjoy tomatoes with some flavorful, healthy fats like olives, avocados or similar oils. (3) Bell and chili peppers are packed with vitamins C, A, E, K1 and potassium, folic acid and fiber. [All of us all could use a bit more fiber in our diets! About fiber, green beans are wonderful sources. Plus, they have many proteins, carotenoids, and anti-oxidants with only a small number of calories. Green beans have nutrients described as being anticarcinogenic, assisting the prevention and even the stopping the spread of some cancers in the body. (4, 5, 6)] Additionally, peppers assist in fighting inflammation, too, with their anti-oxidants. Raw and roasted peppers have anti-oxidant benefits. Roasting may increase or decrease those benefits depending on the pepper type and stage of their growth. (7,8,9) Either way, your McHenry chiropractor urges you to eat some peppers, tomatoes, and green beans! Your body will repay you!
